Children’s Activity 69: Hide It

An Indoor Play Activity

This simple “hide it” activity can be played just about anywhere, at any time, with whatever props are available.

Materials Required:

  • Small toys or household objects

Instructions:

This simple “hide it” activity can be played just about anywhere, at any time, with whatever props are available.

Have your children volunteer a few small toy animals, cars, dolls, or similar objects. (Keep swallowable objects away from younger children.)

You can use just about anything that’s small and can be safely manhandled.

Instruct your child to wait in another room (or close his or her eyes).

Then hide the objects around the room, and invite your kids to find them.

Gauge the level of difficulty to your child’s age and abilities.

Remember that most kids will look for things at eyelevel or lower – you can increase the level of challenge by placing the toys or objects in slightly higher spots. Provide clues or feedback in terms of being “warm” or “cold.”

Reverse the roles when your child has found all the objects.

When it’s your turn, use the game as an opportunity to teach your kids how to give clues.

But don’t be surprised if your child tells you the exact whereabouts of the object you’re searching for – some secrets are just too good not to tell!
