Children’s Activity 33: Family Book of Records

An Arts and Crafts Activity

Your family no doubt has some astounding tales of strength, courage, and ability that should be recorded for posterity.

Materials Required:

  • 3-ring notebook
  • Scrap paper/hole punch
  • Dividers or construction paper
  • Kraft paper

Instructions:

Your family no doubt has some astounding tales of strength, courage, and ability that should be recorded for posterity.

Get a three-ring binder and some dividers (or make the dividers from construction paper).

Label the dividers Athletics, Blocks and Toys, Household, and so on.

You should also collect a stack of three-hole punched scrap paper.

Cover the notebook with kraft (coarse brown) paper, and have your kid’s) decorate it.

Now ask questions like: What’s the greatest number of blocks that you have stacked? The longest jump? The longest time balancing on one foot? The longest time staring at someone else without giggling?

You can also keep the competitive aspect down by asking the same questions of each child, so that children only compete against themselves.

Jot down the feat, the record, the record holder, and the date, and place the information in the appropriate section. (Older kids who can write can serve as scribe).

Affix a photograph or drawing if available.

There is only one rule: no one can challenge anyone else’s accomplishment for at least 24 hours – that lets everyone have his or her day in the sun.

This Childrens Activity is sponsored by Zane Education – the home of online Visual Learning.
