Childrens Activity 16: Crayon Games

An Arts and Crafts Activity

Maybe your child You can resurrect the once-noble crayon with this activity.

Materials Required:

  • Used crayons

Optional Materials:

  • Paper

Instructions:

The life of a crayon is a sad one indeed. First regal and stately with fine pointed tip, standing proudly as part of a perfect row, most wind up short, worn, and stubby, their edges dulled, and tossed into an old shoe box.You can resurrect the once-noble crayon with this activity.

Mix up a handful of used crayons of various sizes and spread them on a table.

If your child is in the pre-counting phase, ask him or her to arrange them from smallest to largest, then reverse the order.

For your next request, have your child first organize the crayons by color.

Then, within each color group, arrange the crayons by size, again going from smallest to largest and then largest to smallest.

Older kids will need more of a challenge. Draw a line and have your child guess the fewest number of crayons of any size he or she chooses it will take to equal the length of the line when the crayons are laid end to end.

Then have your child actually line up crayons and see how close he or she came to the right answer.
