Materials Required:

• Paper
• Crayons, markers or tempera paint

Instructions:

Explain that a coat of arms is a special picture for your family (most dictionaries and encyclopedias can show a sample coat of arms).

To make one, just supply paper, crayons, markers and paint. You might want to cut out a shield and some circular objects to trace, as well as a ruler.

Your child can add all sorts of “regal” trimmings-stars, stripes, trucks, animals, or even dinosaurs. Some kids will opt for a strange mix. (Our son decided that our household coat of arms would be Tyrannosaurus Rex surrounded by three flowers and standing on a garbage truck.)

When the coat of arms is finished, hang it on the playroom wall.

If you have access to a photocopy machine, you might want to make a set for use on greeting cards and have your child provide the crayon power for each unique card.
