Examine the hardships endured by slaves in North America and the protests waged to set them free. Learn how African Americans contributed to the Union victory in the Civil War. Learn about the struggle of African Americans to overcome racial discrimination from the end of the Civil War through the 1960s. Identify the contributions of Asa Philip Randolph, Thurgood Marshall, Rosa Parks, and Martin Luther King Jr. to the African American struggle for equal rights.
