Children’s Activity 55: Giant Theme Books

An Arts and Crafts Activity

Giant Theme Books are big scrapbooks filled with pictures of cars, airplanes, animals, people, and anything else that strikes your child’s fancy.

Materials Required:

  • Magazine pictures
  • Large sheets of stiff paper
  • Tape or nontoxic glue
  • String

Instructions:

Giant Theme Books are big scrapbooks filled with pictures of cars, airplanes, animals, people, and anything else that strikes your child’s fancy. They’re a lot of fun to put together.

Clip pictures from a variety of magazines and save them in envelopes, then affix them to large sheets of stiff paper with double stick tape or non-toxic glue.

Let your child organize the pictures according to his or her own criteria.

Punch three or four holes in the left side of the sheets of paper, then pass a string through each hole to make a loop.

The string loops serve as a binding. (You can also get individual rings at a stationery store.)

Before binding the sheets, your child may want to make a cover with a sample illustration, and even dictate a title.

Here are a few examples:

My Favorite Cars
People With Moustaches
Baseball Days

Date the books and save them – you’ll be glad you did!
